Farewell to Marsha, the Dress Form

Yep, I'm very sad to say it, but Marsha has been disassembled and will be packed at UPS for return tonight.  I got a VERY unexpected call from the company I got her from this morning whereby I was informed that I didn't know how to measure myself, I didn't know how to measure Marsha, and my turquoise blouse was obviously WAY TOO BIG for Marsha, and I needed to add a lot more padding!

Well, I can't even begin to say how crushed my spirit was.

I had spent so many hours getting her to what I thought was a very close fit.  The lady disagreed with me and told me my blouse did not fit her AT ALL in the front or in the back.  So, either I didn't know how to sew a blouse to fit me -- or Marsha needed a bunch more padding.  I was so broken-hearted.

I had really become attached to her, and I was enjoying her so much.  I wasn't DONE with her yet, but that was because I was still waiting for futher instruction that I never got.

The company has been more than nice to me about offering me a bigger form or taking this one back.  I really didn't want to start over after spending all that time.  As difficult as I am to fit, I never should have ordered it in the first place.  But then, isn't that the figure that needs a dress form the most???  I don't know.  I thought that for $1300, I would be getting the best choice out there.

Here, I say Goodbye to Marsha.  I'm not too joyful, I have to say.

So now, I shall have to find something else to blog about.  Think I'll go back to making a blouse-a-day from my Sure-fit Designs patterns.

If I EVER say I am thinking about ordering a dress form again, will somebody just shoot me!

No more blogging today.  Have to make a 50-mile round trip tonight to get her packed up at UPS so FEDEX can pick her up.  Sure glad Jerry bought the little delivery van.

Hugs, Joy

  1. I love reading your blog. I am also determined to get great fit and have the sure fit kits. I am seriously considering making a duct tape douple dress form. I have a cheap form from many years ago that is way too small, must have shrunk, that I can put the duct tape form on. Have your considered duct tape. With your sewing friend, you should be able to get a pretty good result. I on the other hand will have to use my very patient husband to do the taping.

Again, love your blog. Your tuts are very informative and enjoyable.

  2. Thought it might be nice to introduce myself a little. I just had birthday 65 and am very much looking forward to retiring in 11 months. I have been sewing since I was 8 years old and consider myself to be experienced but not expert because I have never had time to "perfect" fit. Somehow I feel that my journey will be much like yours when I really have the time to devote in my sewing room and don't have to rush.

    1. Hi Jerris! Nice to meet you.
Glad you like my blog. If I can help you in any way, please ask. I love to sew, but it is so discouraging when what you make doesn't fit. Glenda at SFD is the VERY BEST IN THE WORLD at customer service. Too bad she doesn't give tutorials on that.

  3. Joy Joy, you are being more than nice to these Jerks (with a capital "J") and don't you dare take my comment down. You should be shouting from the highest hill the way you were treated. That woman does not know anything about fit and definitely nothing about service or common courtesy. I am still furious for you. We are going to do a duct tape one the next time you are here and it is going to be better than Marsha ever was or could be. I won't recommend them to anyone ever again! I'm calling you pretty soon.

    1. We had to go all the way to Durant tonight- 50 miles round trip - to get Marsha packed. THEN, when we got there, the very young -- all by herself -- girl informed us that she closed in 30 minutes, and we would have to come back tomorrow because she couldn't pack her that fast. I asked her if we could just buy the boxes, which we did. $30.00 worth. We will take her to the store tomorrow and get her and her accessories packed in three boxes. I will be so glad to have her gone. We just got back a bit ago. Will email you.
