Back At Last and Where I've Been

Hey Everyone!

It is Wednesday evening here in Edmond, OK and I am enjoying the second week of my Vacation From Life.

It is a loooooooooooooooooong story as to what I have been up to, so if you have 30 minutes, you can listen to it here:

My mother is doing great and is happy.  I miss her very much, and I am supposed to get to talk to her tonight on Dorine's phone.  I don't know if Mom will be able to carry on a conversation -- or even want to try -- but I can, at least, hear her voice, and she can hear mine.

Other than that, I am making appointments galore and keeping Sweet Baby Luke as often as his parents will allow.  He is SO adorable!  I keep forgetting to ask his parents if I can post pics of him, so I won't do that until I do.

Jerry is at our other house working on very difficult wheelchair assignments.

One is for an over 600 pound person.  (OMG!  Have you ever watched that show about 600 pound people?  It is the saddest thing.  I just want to cry every time I watch it.)  Jerry always takes the customers other companies turn down.  He works more hours than he will ever get paid for either locating or making special attachments.  He is really good at what he does!

The other patient is a woman who lives too far away -- but he took her anyway -- and she cannot make up her mind what she wants.  He keeps making changes for her and driving to her house and back just to show her something he has done, only to have to figure out how to make some other change.  I don't know HOW he stands it!

SOOOOOO, he isn't able to have a vacation WITH ME, is the point of all of that.  He gets to go fishing on the weekends, and that keeps him going.  He is catching gigantic fish now, and he really loves that he finally figured out how to do that.  It takes a LOT MORE than a lake, a nice boat and lots of lures.

Won't keep you.  I need to clean up this vacation spot!  Unfortunately, it did not come with a housekeeper.

Hugs, Joy

  1. Dear Sweet Joy! I am so happy you're doing well and your Mother is well too! I have been checking your VLOG every few days to stay "in touch" with you and have been very worried for you and your Mother during your absence. I am so very relieved that all is well. I can empathize with what you've gone through, and I, too, agree that you and Jerry have done the right thing for your Mother as well. The tender care and loving way that you presented her new space to her made me cry for joy and happiness for everyone involved. Your Mother is loved by so many and so deeply! You are a gem, dear Joy. You are an incredible soul, a graceful lady, a superb daughter, and a true angel. I'm glad you are taking time for yourself, and I am so very thankful that you are who you are. What an inspiration you are to me. God bless you, Miss Joy, and your sweet, adorable Mother, and of course your wonderful husband, Jerry, too! I am so very, very thankful to know everything is going well for you and your family. I have truly missed you! Your little laugh makes me smile. I adore you so very much! Sending you hugs...Penny from Oregon.

  3. Joy, I just watched your utube from March 28. I wanted to tell you I did miss you, but was pretty sure you were probably doing something with your mom. my husband and I took care of his dad for 21 months and the sharing of your story was almost exactly moment by moment of our situation. I do understand the strain you and your husband have been in, we felt some of the same things. My prayers are with you and your husband and just wanted to share with you that you are not alone, God is good, he is with you and your mom and has wonderful plans for all of you.

  4. Dear Joy, I had been wondering where you were, but knew how busy you are and just thought you were involved in something. Now I know what. God Bless you sweet lady. As I watched your video, I sat here and cried and thanked God for making the arrangements for your Mother. When you started talking about this facility, I knew God had placed it in front of you, and that it was right for your Mother, and for you. All Mothers should be so fortunate as to have a daughter as kind and caring as you. Your Mother's room is lovely, and her knowing you did this for her, is so wonderful. I am thankful you knew when the time was right to make other arrangements for your Mom. Thank you for sharing. Hugs, Barb in Arlington, Tx.

  5. Joy, please know that there are many of us that even though we don't leave comments, still check for you daily and worry about what you and your family are going through. You are very loved by your followers (especially those of us that live vicariously through you) God be with you and yours. Happy Easter! Dawn

  6. So happy that things are working out and your Mom likes her new place. Thank you for sharing your story I am sure it's going to help someone who has the same problem with an elderly parent. Although both my parents are deceased, your story touched my heart. By the way, I missed you also and hoped nothing bad had happened. Wishing you, your Mom and all your family a blessed Easter.

  7. Joy,
We visited my mother today. Same issues. None of us were aware of signs/symptoms of dementia but it explained a lot. My mother was fiercely independent, and still tries to be. She wants to know how she wound up in a nursing home (lower level for rehab, upper level Alzheimer's) and still insists that she could take care of herself. Not true 4 1/2 years ago, definitely not true now. She has good days and some not so good days, but I thank God that she is still with us even if what she says makes no sense at all. We also felt so very guilty, but this is a disease that requires specialized care and it's not something you can cope with 24/7. Basically, you need to take very good care of yourself--to have the strength to care for your mom. Rosemarie B-=Boston area

    1. Mom is very confused. I have to repeat things 4, 5, 6 times, and she still doesn't get the sentence or its meaning. Mainly, all I can say is "I miss you and love you". She still understands that.
