Back to Work and My Quilt Needs a Name

Hello Everyone!

A GREAT BIG THANK YOU to all of you sweet, caring people who sent thoughts, prayers and condolences after my mother passed.  I can't believe a whole week has already gone by.  I appreciate so very much all your prayers.  Even though expected, it is hard to lose your mother.  I was sitting upstairs watching TV with Jerry a few nights ago, and I actually started to get up and "go check on Mom".

I am back at my store trying to catch up.  It seems every time I just get to the bottom of one stack, three more have formed around me.  We are going to be audited soon, and there is so much we have to be prepared for.  So many forms and documents and schedules!

It is a ROYAL PITA and we have to PAY THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS for the torment.  Oh, the joys of owning your own business.

So even though a lot of the stress in caring for my mother is gone, there seems to be plenty to replace it.

We had to let one employee go and another one starts on Wednesday.  Something else that requires a lot of preparation and paperwork, but we are real excited about our new lady because she is the same lady that has cared for my Mom for the last year, Dorine.  Isn't that awesome!

I want to start making garments again as I don't seem to be losing the 10 pounds I gained back while caring for Mom.  I'll be getting more exercise now, so maybe that will help.  I think I will start right now by going upstairs to walk -- or is it glide -- on the Elliptical.

And!!!!  I almost forgot to show you.  I finished the scrappy quilt top yesterday.  Ready to put her on the longarm.

Help me think of a name for this, please.

And while I was at it, I decided to get the binding ready for my Bargello.  It turned out turquoise because I couldn't decide if I liked brown or turquoise better, and the turquoise was handier to cut.  This picture makes me think brown would have looked better, but too late to change it now.

I'll be back soon.

Hugs, Joy

  1. I lost my mother 23 years ago, and I remember going to the phone to call her and having to realize all over again that she was gone. But I have good memories that make it easier. And you have peace knowing that you were there for her when she needed you most. God's timing is always best.

Love the quilt. My name idea is Ohio Maze.~ Pam

  2. I am sorry to hear of your mother's passing. Your quilt made me think of the optical illusion toy called a kaleidoscope. I had to ask my son what it was called. LOL I couldn't remember the name but could describe it. Anyway maybe Kaleidoscope would work. Wish I could think of a shorter name that means the same. Kaleidoscope sounds too medical. UGH

  3. Your quilt reminds me of a mother’s words of wisdom, “waste not, want not”. I think Marie would like that for a name. Mothers are dear, because we only get one...

God bless them all and their loving daughters ~ Lynn

    2. Hi Joy,

I believe it is two words - kinda like homeward bound. I also took care of my dear Mom and I felt your pain.

I love seeing your You Tube videos and enjoy all the projects that you work on. I wish you were my neighbor and we could sew together! God Bless you and your Family. JoAnne

I like that name, starbound. Bless you for your love, Patience, care you gave your mom. Maybe you could make those pin cushions in those pansy tea cups for your sisters. I think it would make your mom happy. Take care of you. Janet in san diego

  10. I'm really terrible with naming things, so I'll leave that to others. But, I wanted to say thank you for the post and letting us know what's going on with you. Even if it's just chit chat, we love hearing your voice.

  11. Love the quilts. Sure wish I could quilt like that. I’ve been thinking about you since your mom passed. I know it is hard, but I promise each day gets just a bit better. We did the best we could for our mom’s and I know they knew that. Hope to see you posting videos again soon. Hugs.....

  13. My name is Mary Jane. I have been forced to rest, so I've been bingeing on your utube videos. I was alarmed when I couldn't find any videos posted sine July of 2017, so I decided to visit your blog. I am glad to see you're still posting. I've been praying for you and I am sorry for your loss. Thank you for allowing us the privilege of knowing you. Take care of yourself.
