A New Skill and I LOVE IT!

Don't you just LOVE to learn new things.  I always have.  I remember when I was going to school for the very first time with my red plaid lunchbox in the big yellow bus.

I thought the teacher must be the smartest lady in the whole world and I soaked up everything she said.

I was so excited to LEARN.

I thought I was in Heaven to have pencils and crayons and papers and books and there was CHALK and a BLACKBOARD!!!

I wanted to BE THE TEACHER so much that whenever I was at home, I set up "school" outside on the patio and my siblings and friends were allowed to BORROW a pencil or a crayon to come to my school.  I collected them all when "school" was out.

Believe it or not, all my friends wanted to come to my cardboard box school.

What a shame the kids these days don't appreciate what teaching and learning are all about.

I loved it then -- and I still do.  I don't have a chalkboard, but I have 2 whiteboards and every color marker made to use on them.

FIRST OF ALL, however, I'm going to have to adjust to my new Windows 7 operating system on this computer.  This computer crashed, and Jerry had to erase its old XP brain.  He loaded Windows 7 on it yesterday.  I have Windows 7 on my laptop, and I am used to it there, but things really look different -- especially, in this blog -- on this giant monitor on my desktop computer.

So,
it was Sunday and I wanted to do SOMEthing.  Jerry, as I said, was on this computer, so I had to find something else to do besides blogging and emailing and watching jewelry-making videos.  Actually, I did get the brilliant idea to REMEMBER that I HAVE a laptop, and I could bring it up here into my sewing room.  When I got it up here, I decided to watch some old classes I purchased when I first started making jewelry.

One of them was how to CROCHET WIRE WITH BEADS.  Sounds crazy, huh?  How can you crochet wire?  Actually, I didn't know if I could crochet ANYTHING at this point although I had done a little of it a thousand years ago when I was young.

BESIDES, I had been feeling really guilty lately that I purchased so much wire when I started this hobby, and it was all still neatly wrapped around all the spools just lying in the bottom of the nice box with one big drawer I purchased for it.  And not only that!  Phylly just gave me ALL of her jewelry-making supplies, and there was LOTS of wire included.  I thought, "I better make SOMETHING or have a wire sale on Ebay!"

It turned out really good -- I think.

The wire is 28-gauge (very thin and fine) Sterling Silver.  The beads are just beads from my vast bead supply.

I crocheted 3 long strands and then wired them together into a silver clasp.

 Here is a close-up of the crocheted wire.  The loops are all different, which is supposed to be part of the charm of this style.  I'm surprised that my perfectionist personality likes it, but I do.

I've got to go.  I've been sitting in this chair way too much today, and I believe my rear end has now spread out another foot!  I'm going to go jump on the trampoline for a few minutes, and then see about making some matching earrings for this pretty necklace.
