Unstuck Appliques and Bendable Bright Light

Hey everyone!  How are all my bud's today?

I cannot tell you how NICE it is to have you out there -- all over the world -- reading my BLOG once in awhile -- commenting once in awhile -- and just being the sweet ladies you are.

I was REALLY disappointed in one of Edyta Sitar's applique blocks yesterday, and also disappointed with the NON-response from her website.  She is so darling, I can't imagine she wouldn't respond if she had received my email.  I have a feeling her husband is running things on the website.  A man answered one time when I called, and he wasn't very nice.  Maybe he was having a bad day.  One never knows.

ANYHOW, I was working on my 8th block, and I had major issues with it.  It would NOT STICK when I ironed it.  It has really pointy leaves, and I NEEDED them to stick.

Here is a pic of the block:

Imagine zig-zagging around all those POINTS on the leaves with them not being ironed down!  I did the first one while thinking bad words and grumbling the whole way around.  THEN, my lightning fast mind remembered Sulky Solvable.  I sprayed a piece of that with some KK2000 and placed it on top of the second unstuck leaf.  It worked a whole lot better, but then I had to wash it away.

I emailed Edyta at Laundry Basket Quilts HOPING she would send me another package of cut-outs for this block, but I haven't heard a thing back.

These fusible precuts are VERY expensive.  She needs to replace defective ones.

For the lady that asked me about the little lights I have on my sewing machines, here is a video all about them:

I'm off to get in my jammies and watch "how to crochet" videos.

I really don't want to do that much of it, however, as I feel it isn't much exercise for an ever-widening bottom and falling body parts!

Be back soon.

Hugs, Joy

  3. How frustrating that the leaves have lost their stickiness.
I hope that they send you replacements quickly.

  4. Hi Joy,
I love the new quilt you are making and cannot wait to see the whole thing done. Am I to understand that these came with the fabric already cut up?
For the lady asking about the lamp: I have macular degeneration and after seeing the blog where you had mentioned it, I went on Amazon and bought 2 for $14.90 each. I use the base of an old metal lamp I was throwing away but I checked and they stick very well on a tuna can as well. They are great!! One is actually enough as I got a tree lamp to put behind( from Boston Harbor on Amazon as well). Between both lamps, sewing has become a joy again.

  5. I meant to paste here the title of the little lamp as it appears on Amazon:
Sewing Machine Working gooseneck Lamp + 20 LED light, with Magnetic Mounting Base
When I pasted it this morning on Amazon, several
lamps showed up (they appear to all be the same lamp from different vendors) starting from $7!

  7. Joy, love your quilt and I hope they resolve your issues to your satisfaction. It would be so sad if they don't not to mention extremely poor customer service and we would all think twice about buying from them.
I have the Bendable Bright Light on my machines also, they are fantastic.
Thank you for your help. Take care. Anne

  8. I am also watching how-to crochet videos.. ☺☺...do you think it is a "new" trend??? I was amazed at the beautiful things that has been going on in that field, while my nose was stuck to my sewing machine!! Did you see that beautiful blanket by Dedri Uys - Sophie's Universe? It is really something else! Thanks for the info on the lights! Take care of yourself!

    1. OH MY GOODNESS!!! THAT is a phenomonal blanket. I can't believe someone crocheted that. I am going to have a new goal this year, and that is to get as good as that lady is -- or, at least, attempt it. Thank you so much for the post.

  9. Hi Joy - I've just found your blog due to searching on Lorraine Henry and I would love to know where I can purchase one of those flexible curve rulers. Sorry, I know this is not in regards to your current blog post, but I couldn't figure out how to email you. You're now in my favorites so I look forward to seeing you more in the future. LOVE your sweet and joyful spirit! Sherry

    1. I learned about the bendable curve from Lorraine Henry. She is DARLING. I've taken many of her classes. I think Hancock's sells them, however, I wouldn't sware to it. I think stores that carry drafting supplies carry them to. Let me see if there is a brand name on mine ...... Mine is called "Alvin" and it is 40" long. You might try googling it. I DO KNOW that you can get really flimsy ones and high quality ones. Good luck!
