Princess Di cut my hair a bit too short, but it will grow back -- EVENTUALLY! Di is trying to cut off all the home dye jobs I did before I met her.
I love the color. I think I am still wearing "Coffee Bean", but I'm not sure. Di does her mad scientist act, and she makes up these formulas and writes them on index cards. I was showing them to Jerry. Terry's is way more complicated than mine. Of course, Terry has a thousand times more hair than I do!
We had such a lovely time. Wish all my sewing/quilting friends could gather together someday. Jolene and Deb live too far away though. I do have an internet friend named Rhonda, and she has an airplane and flies it. MAYBE she could fly down here sometime. She is OFF THE CHARTS talented though, and I would feel like I was in Sewing Kindergarten if she was here. I have other friends in Australia and the UK and Canada and even Africa. Isn't that the most amazing thing about the internet?
I made a new garment today. It is the Style Arc Kim Swing Top. Sorry Deb, I told you the wrong name in my email.
If I didn't look so bad today, I would have taken a pic for you. Maybe tomorrow.
Here is the pattern:
It would be easy IF you didn't have to do all the changes I had to do. You have to do an FBA on BOTH SIDES of the top, and that is tricky. To do the round back and sway back, I had to add a center back seam. Also had to tuck the neckline. The fit is perfect though according to my hubby.
Mine is a solid red knit.
I listened to most of my new book called "Redeeming Love". Thank you for the recommendation! I keep praying for the happy ending to happen!
Also listening to "The Shoemaker's Wife", and I am about to meet her, I think. So fun to listen to books while I sew.

Joy, I'm so glad you are enjoying The Shoemaker's Wife. I was worried because the story is so in-depth some might find it slow. And yes, it's funny that the title is about a character that you don't get to meet until later in the book. I recall thinking that when I read it too. But to me, rather than slow, I became engrossed in the descriptive scenery and nuances of the characters. The fact that it's a true story makes it even better.
ReplyDeleteI don't know how you listen to books while sewing. I'd be paying too much attention to the reader and frog up my project for sure! Music is one thing because I know the lyrics and they just play in the background of my head, but to actually pay attention would be a disaster. I can only listen to them while I'm driving. I love the Style Arc blouse! But I'm glad you posted about it because it would be too tricky for me. Money saved... Oh, and THANK YOU so much for the tips about the microfiber rags! I never liked them but had never tried them damp either. You changed my cleaning world! It's absolutely incredible how well they work on everything. I STOP the audio lots of times when I am working on something I can't do "in my sleep". But for the general just "putting it together", I can listen.

I'm very anxious to see your blouse as I ordered the pattern. I don't know what FBA means. I love your videos would you consider doing one focusing on making this top. I'm considering purchasing the SFD packages. I've seen my children's clothes in the past including spring costs, jackets etc... Even my daughters underwear although I didn't use lingerie eleastic and you can imagine her little marked legs I'll say no more. Live and learn.

DeleteJoy, what a coincidence...I have a blog coming out on Tuesday/Wednesday with an SFD blouse/top very similar to this pattern. My 'dippy' hem is on a side seam though, not asymmetrical as this one. Take a look when it's posted.
ReplyDeleteThat is WONDERFUL news. I won't have to make all the adjustments. I wanted to do this with SFD, but I thought the pattern would be faster. NOT! It took me all morning to fix it. I have luck with the shoulders when I use Stylearc.
DeleteHi joy loraine here from leyland uk fab video really enjoyed watching you all having a girly afternoon in the salon ha ha . Well just wanted to tell you of a neat idea I saw on u tube for folding material I no you have finished all yours but you could all ways try on your sew fabric. What you do is com material Selvidges together then fold again till you have 4 layers wind on board till you get to the end then tuck the board on the last layer that looks like an envelopes it's brilliant. The name is so sew fabrics I think you can watch her do it will check an let you know have a good nite .footy for us bugs loraine x

I first found your YouTube videos, then your Blog. We are almost neighbors, as I am in Arlington, Texas. haha Anyway, I enjoy you and am looking forward to blogging again and doing some visiting. Since I live in a condo and don't have a great deal of space, I don't do large quilting projects, but am green with envy over your sewing rooms. My sewing area is a loft. Primarily I sew blouses/tops for myself, or sew occasionally for others and for charity. Sometimes I set up a knitting machine or 2 and play on those. Mostly I knit for charity on the machines. ReplyDeleteFinally got it to work! Yayay!!! I first found you via YouTube, then your Blog. I love the blouses you make, they are right up my alley, V-neck, no collar, cool and comfy. I use a different pattern with a cut-on sleeve, but got the Simplicity pattern you use that has princess seams at the Joann's sale the other day. Where do you get the wovens and the pretty knits you use? I shop different places online and around town, but don't see the kinds of fabrics you use. Thanks, Barb
