All Sewists Should Do This!

I am having more fun making jewelry.  I'm not good enough yet to graduate to gold and silver wire, but I'm getting the hang of it.

GUESS WHAT I did today?

Remember yesterday when Betty Jane, Phylly and I were coming back from taking Mom to the hospital in Enid, we stopped at the quilt/fabric store in Hennessey?  I bought three pieces of fabric to make -- of course -- three more blouses.  Since I don't have all my sewing paraphernalia here with me at Mom's former home, I decided to make the earrings for these three pieces of fabric BEFORE I sewed the blouses.

I wonder if anyone else does that????

First, though, I made a necklace.  I had a little string of hearts.  One large, two medium and two tiny.  I decided to use the two tiny hearts for earrings and make a necklace out of the other three.  They looked really nice with one of the fabrics.  Here it is:

While I was working on this, I got the most AMAZING revelation!  If you look close, you can see that one side of the chain is LONGER than the other side of the chain.

I decided that if I could make a blouse fit my HIGH shoulder, that I should be able to make a necklace fit my HIGH shoulder.  I have always hated necklaces because they won't stay centered on my neck.

SOOOOOOO,  because of this awesome revelation, when I have THIS necklace on, the clasp sits directly in the center at the back of my neck, and the big heart hangs in the center of my upper chest.

KEWL!!!

I have an expensive gold/diamond necklace Jerry bought me years ago that I never wear for the above reason.  When I get back home, I'm going to see if there is any way I can make the same adjustment to it.

Turned out the two tiny hearts cannot be used for earrings because they hang all crooked due to the way they are drilled.  Oh, well.  I'll think of something else to do for matching earrings.  Maybe some glue.

Notice in the picture on the left how the left side (right side of pic) of my neck is higher than the right side.  Explains it all.

Sorry for the dark picture.  I don't have the proper equipment here to take good pics, and, of course, I have just this one face!

After I made that necklace, I made earrings for another piece of fabric I bought yesterday.  They are really cute, but when I looked at the picture, I noticed that I need to remake one earring and turn the bead UPSIDE DOWN so they will be opposites, instead of the same.  It would help to think of this BEFORE you make the earrings!

You do know by now that I love BLACK and any color together, but especially, black and red.  It will be a challenge to keep a flower center from landing directly on my apex in the blouse made out of this!

Constant challenges in life, huh?

I haven't gotten to fabric number three yet, so I will
show you that one tomorrow.

My day -- other than the above part -- was pretty much "as usual".

The air conditioner company showed up here at Mom's house to replace the entire unit.  They were an hour late, but I wasn't too upset since I have had cool air since I've been here.  They arrived and went to work out in the garage.  I walked out about 30 minutes later to see what was going on, and the two guys were just standing in the middle of the garage doing NOTHING!

I asked if there was a problem, and you can imagine my total shock when I found out there WAS a problem.
You'll never guess what it was.  They brought the WRONG kind of unit.  This one is an "up" and they needed a "down", or vice versa.  They had over an hour long drive here.  Don't you think they would have asked whatever question that decision required?  I'm so used to this now, that I just laughed.  I told them to  come back tomorrow, and I would stay here another day.  After all, I still have one piece of fabric without matching earrings!

After they left, I went over to Countrywood Living Center which is where Mom lived until yesterday.  They will hold her apartment for her until we know the outcome of Generations.  I spent two hours in her room going through her closet.  It is a good thing I did.  It was horrible.  She had not let the lady in to get her wash for quite a long time from the smell of it, and you can imagine what it was like with her being incontinent.  We took EVERYTHING out of her closet.  I am washing all the blouses, and Countrywood is washing all the pants.  We have dozens of each!  I actually already freed the black buttons off of one sweater, and I have a feeling there will be more this evening.

I've got to get busy.  Need to cook dinner.  OH!  Forgot to tell you.  The countertop people and the plumber showed up at our Kingston home today and removed all the kitchen countertops and the sink.  Jerry is going to "cook" upstairs in my mini-kitchen.  I'm trying not to visualise that!

Gotta go.

Hugs, Joy

  1. Don't feel bad about making one earring backwards. I have a beautiful pair of silver earring that Roger got me for Christmas at a jewelry store. They both face the same direction, so one of them is always backwards when I wear them.

The hearts are perfect with that fabric. You are really be decked out and stylish.

Would you like a couple of kids? I might even pay you to take them at the moment.

  2. I love the new jewelry .. you're doing great! And you
sure are beyond wonderful, being so caring and kind
to Jerry's Mom PLUS putting up with supervising all
the household jobs everywhere. You are definitely
task oriented and adaptable .. easy to see why you
make such a savvy businesswoman. You know and
show the way .. LOL. You're a leader and you're
    indefatigable!

Found an online romance .. haven't read but the first
1-1/2 chapters, but so far, it seems like it could
occupy one's interest for a bit, if you get bored.

  3. Joy,
What a great idea of making your jewelry to go with your outfit before it is made. Do you decide on your neckline style before you make the necklace and earrings?

I received another e-mail for a Prayer request.
Joy, You and your family are also added to our daily prayer request.
I really enjoy your posts, you have such a talent of turning events into something that is a plus.

    Farmers and Ranchers need Rain

WE ARE PRAYING FOR RAIN. ENOUGH TO FILL LAKES AND STREAMS.
ENOUGH TO SOAK OUR LAND ! ! !

    Isaiah 41:10
    Large Prayer Circle

As evidenced in Arkansas, Colorado, Oklahoma, West Texas, South Texas, and New Mexico,
the drought condition is reaching critical status: cattle are being auctioned off, crops have
burned up; and drinking water is becoming a concern.

Please join us in this prayer circle. Let's make this one of the largest prayer circles ever.
It will be as though everyone is holding hands around the world.

    Dear Heavenly Father,
You said whenever two or more come together, agree and ask in Your Son's name, it shall be given.
We come to you and ask that you bring down the rain to our parched lands.
Our farmers and ranchers need it desperately, as well as our fire fighters. We ask this all in Jesus' name. Amen

  4. Absolutely. Look up to the heavens and SPEAK to the clouds. That is what Jesus did. That is what God did. Read mark 11:23-24. I know it by heart.
