Hello on Friday

This storage relocation project has taken WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY longer than I expected and has been a HUMONGOUS task!

Of course, it would not have been so frightful if I didn't have 40 years of fabric to bring out of hiding.  I think I'm up to twelve bags full for Goodwill now.

I've been folding fabric for most of SEVEN days.  I ran out of cut-up boards this morning, so I am making the third garden shirt for my sister.  That turned out to be a huge task as well, as I had to refresh my brain on HOW the embroidery software works.  I called Bernina for help, and the girl kept saying she didn't know about "that part" or "that part" or "that part".  I never did figure out exacty WHAT PART she did know!

Here's my new video from yesterday if you haven't already seen it:

Nothing much else going on around here today.  I'm beginning to feel like I need a date night to someplace that serves wonderful steaks and margueritas.  I hate to even mention it though after all Jerry has done for me this week with the bookshelves.  We were putting together book shelf #2 last night.  We got to the part where Jerry needed to drill the four extra shelf-holder-upper holes in the side pieces.  He was drilling one of the holes, and the collar (?) that keeps the drill bit from going in too far came loose and the drill bit went ALL THE WAY THROUGH the side of the bookcase.

Jerry was SO UPSET.  I wasn't upset in the least.  I told him not to worry about it.  I told him I would hang a little quilt over it or something.  He insisted he had to fix it, and even though we were both beat, he went out to his barn and got the necessary ingredients, and he repaired the damage.  I TOLD you, he is an amazing man!

I need to go downstairs and see if it is still there!  I feel like a bear that has been hibernating for the last two weeks in a den full of fluffy stuff.  I really need a break.

Be back soon.

Hugs, Joy

  1. Joy,
I think your new top is really pretty and goes perfectly with those salmon pants! Your fabric storage project is amazing! (as is your stash! Wish I lived near you...I'd stop at your Goodwill and buy your donations!)

  2. you must feel really good getting all your fabric done.
You probably are very slick at doing it now so it wont be such a chore at your other house.
Did you discover much fabric that you had forgotten about?
I really have to tidy my sewing space - it is much more fun to sew though. LOL

  3. I love your videos and bubbly personality.I wish I could meet you personally but I am in South Africa (not Africa) people think I am a scam because I am from South Africa it is a huge difference lol.I have been trying to get the SFD patterns for years but our exchange rate is terrible. For some unknown reason I emailed Glenda only to learn SFD patterns are now available in our country. You can imagine the excitement. Just have to get money for fabric and patterns
My sewing machine was stolen another problem. Oh well lol
I am 72 years old. Lost my husband two and half years ago very lonely. I am on your youtube subscribe list. My email is larainegibson@gmail.com

  4. Just a quick question. Was there a reason you did not match the pattern on the front of your floral blouse that matches your salmon colored pants?
    Just wondering, Sharon

    1. 2 reasons: #1: I didn't have enough fabric. #2: I didn't really care. Sometimes, I do. It actually bothers me sometimes if the pattern repeat goes across the front of me and the same object is evenly spaced everywhere. I'm sure that makes NO sense, lol.

  5. You should try using hair clips instead of pins to hold the fabric. That's what I use. I love your videos. They put a smile on my face.

  6. Joy, you are truly a joy to watch. Question. How do sew the v in your blouse. You showed only the back neck inyou video, I am wondering about the sewing sequence, what comes first. Would appreciare the steps you go thru when sewing up your blouse with buttoned front. I am attempting my first blouse, totally inspired by you. Please help Ali Pye

    1. I assume you are talking about the blouse I have on. I would suggest you go buy a simple pattern. Simplicity or McCalls or Butterick. The pattern pieces will be inside along with instructions as to the sequence. Just quickly: The front edge and back neck are finished with a FACING.
FIRST: I sew in all the darts.
SECOND: I sew in the side seams.
THIRD: I put the facing on.
FOURTH: I put the sleeves in. (But you could do that third.)
FIFTH: I hem the sleeves and bottom.
      SIXTH: Buttonholes and buttons.

    2. OOPS! Forgot to say SEW IN THE SHOULDER SEAMS. I do that SECOND with the side seams.
