BEST Fit Ever, But...

The last couple of days, I have been redrawing a Sure-fit Designs Shirt to make up that pretty red fabric with. 

I have a pattern I like at my other house, but it isn't doing me a bit of good here.  So I decided to open up my SFD Shirt Kit and draw a new pattern.  I decided to design a shirt with a shawl collar.

When Glenda designs a new style, she draws it like it is the easiest exercise in the world.  When I draw off a new design -- or should I say TRY to draw off a new design -- I panic!  You have to draw a curve for a shawl collar.  And I have the SFD template and two french curve rulers, so one would THINK I could accomplish that without too much trouble.

Well, think AGAIN! (as my Mother used to always say).  It took me hours to do it, but I finally finished.

Here is my new shirt pattern AFTER I whacked the collar back an inch.  Notice my new bust dart!  It turned out really good, I think, and it is something that "isn't like every other blouse I make", as my husband always says.  I've never made a shawl collar shirt before either.

So, here are a few pics of MUSLIN #1 of the new SFD shirt pattern.  The fit is PERFECT, and it always is with Sure-fit Designs.  It is the additional styling that is complicated to me.  However, the more I do it, the better I will get.  Pardon marks and wrinkles.  Not washed and pressed yet.

There isn't much red in this print, but it was the ONLY print at Hancock's that had any red in it at all that I would wear with these pants. 

Notice my new shoes direct from Zappos.com.  Ordered them one day.  Had them the next.  Love that!  The brand of these shoes is "Trotters".  Never heard of it, but let me tell you something about these shoes. 

They SHOULD BE called "Slippers".  They are the most comfortable shoes I have ever had on my feet!  I ordered two more just like them.

Here is something you have to be very careful of, and you have to know what you are doing.  You cannot draw just ANY curve.  You have to be sure to straighten out the end of it or you get this "V" where the center back neck collar seam is.  I'm going to pretend like it is a special design feature.

Phylly is coming over tomorrow morning for a play date.  Maybe she can help me figure out how to put a rounded bottom on this shirt -- not like the man's pattern -- and I may cut out the red fabric.  Maybe not.  I usually make 2 or 3 muslins.  The SFD fit is really great though.  I highly recommend the system, as you all already know!

Better go.  Time to invent something for supper.
