The weather was divine today! I can't believe I cancelled an appointment because some weather guy said it was 90% chance of rain all day. I HATE to drive in the rain.
High of 70 degrees and soft breeze. The rain ended before noon.
Here's all the details of a wonderful three hours at Oklahoma Quiltworks using my 20% off on everything in the store!
Remember, if you click on the clog, you can choose High Definition. If you click on Youtube, you can make the screen large.
Terry! You should have come up here. You would have loved this store.
So HERE is the front entrance which isn't anything spectacular, but I wanted you to see the start of my spree. See the owls looking out the window?
Here is the owl quilt. There is one owl that is really strange looking. Third one down on the far left side. I'll have to look him up in the book. Notice the leaves falling here and there. They are REALLY nice and make the quilt for me.
This one will probably get hung up at my store.
ALSO, there are only 20 birds -- not 25. The ladies told me I needed backgrounds for 25 birds. Oh, well. You can't have too much fabric!
You would think from the small front entrance that all this stuff could NEVER fit inside. It takes a really talented person to fit all of it in there and make it so attractive. The store doesn't seem crowded or cluttered at all.
You KNOW how I get all excited and impressed any time I'm around CLEAN and ORGANIZED at the same time! I could have easily stayed all day long if it hadn't been for the perfume lady. I may have to go back while I'm here. Maybe I could drag my sister there and tell them she has a birthday in August too!!! I have a feeling she would have to be a current customer.
You can see on the left part of a black leather couch. There were SO MANY BOOKS, but I did not DARE look at them. I did enough damage just one step inside the front door! See the baby crib? It has cute baby quilts in it.
I snapped a pic of this quilt for Terry because she likes big block quilts. She didn't seem to be the least bit interested however. I love that it is red, black and white. I already have a box full of black and white fabrics, so I moved away from this. The pattern was called Disappearing Nine Patch if anyone is interested.
I did not photograph the large classroom in the back or the check-out area or the area with tons of notions and patterns. This store has it ALL!
I'm heading out to the patio to study owls.
Hugs, Joy
Joy the owl quilt is awesome. I searched the name Darcy Ashton and she has a Facebook page, Ashton Publications. On her page she shows the owl quilt. The pictures are beautiful. There are pictures of those owls with red Santa hats on too. Good luck on the quilt and I can't wait to see it finished. Go see her Facebook page you just might decide to make an owl Christmas quilt.

Hi Charlotte,
DeleteI saw the Santa owls at the quilt shop. I wasn't really interested in those. I liked the Fall colors much better, and they are more of an all year round type of owl. Her book is very generous with tips and suggestions. You can switch the heads and bodies around and have endless owl variations.

Joy, I just had to write to say I enjoyed reading your blog and the video. That is a beautiful store. I am not a quilter. Garments are my sewing thing but I enjoy seeing the quilts people make. My sister is the quilter so I sent her a link to your blog. Our parents lived in Midwest City but have passed away now. My sister and I still go to their house and to visit our brother in Ponca City. I'm sure she will want to stop at the shop if she hasn't already when she comes from Colorado. I'm in Mississippi so we can meet halfway in Oklahoma - besides it is still home. I'll be watching for your progress on the quilts. Do you watch the Peggy Sagers (Silhouette Patterns) videos? Just thought I'd seen your name in the chat box. Carolyn
ReplyDeleteHi Carolyn,
DeleteYES! I never miss Peggy. I am Framma Joy. I make most of my clothes, and many of my blog posts are about garments I've made from Silhouette Patterns. Unfortunately, I don't have much success with her patterns. There is one I've made about six times, but I had to do a lot of adjusting to it.

Joy What a fun birthday shopping day. Both quilts are beautiful. Looking forward to seeing you working on them. I have the Wildflowers pattern that I have as ONE of my must do. Did you do all the embroideries on a light color?
ReplyDeleteMaureen
Hi Mareen!
DeleteYes, I did all my flowers on the SAME LIGHT background. I have 9 of them done. I'll show pics soon on my blog. This has been a tough one. You need to have at least 10 million pieces of Batik, lol.
Hugs, Joy
Hi Joy
ReplyDeleteI have recently taken up sewing and have really enjoyed watching your videos etc. I was thinking of buying the SureFit Designs and was looking for your advice on them.
I live in Scotland and would have to export them but hopefully it will be worth my while.
Many thanks
Mary Mac
Hi Mary,
DeleteMy advice about Sure-fit Designs is to GO TO THE WEBSITE: www.surefitdesigns.com. Plan on hanging around there for an hour or so and watch the videos. You will be able to decide if you will really like it for yourself. I LOVE IT and have almost worn mine out.
Hugs, Joy
