It is 3:49 AM, and AS USUAL, I am awake half the night
I decided to come upstairs to see if the video I STARTED uploading at 7 PM last night was done yet as I am back at sloooooooooooooooooooow internet land. The price you have to pay for living in the woods, I suppose, along with coexistence with every bug and critter in Oklahoma!
After this VERY mild winter, I am hoping the critter parade this Spring isn't even worse than usual.
I heard on the radio yesterday that this is the mildest February since the BEGINNING of someone keeping track of it! WHAT is going on? The trees all bloomed down here yesterday. On my way home from work, I noticed all the Redbuds were fully bloomed and so were the Bartlett Pear trees. Crazy!
Several of you know that I have been concerned about driving at night and why I have to keep adding MORE light and MORE magnifiers so I can see.
Here is the latest video about that, along with some other stuff:
I WISH I had a switch on my head that I could flip to OFF so my mind could REST.
I have a lot of bad history with doctors, and it is hard for me to trust them. Hence, I shall trust in God to get me through this next step of aging.
AND, as my husband said as we were leaving the doctor's office the other day: "Look at the bright side, Joy. At least the doctor didn't say you have a 50/50 chance of surviving!" That is what the cancer doctor told him in 2013. I feel like such a wimp!
Until soon,
Hugs,
Joy
I had cataract surgery several years ago. Opted for standard lens for distance rather than mono. I had reviously tried mono contact lens and could not adjust. I wear readers for very close work and wear glasses for driving and watching tv. The reason I wear glasses at all is that I was extremely nearsighted and my dr did not want to over correct which is very hard to deal with. I would suggest that you find another dr. One who you feel comfortable with and who takes the time to "treat" you like a patient. Good luck.
ReplyDeleteHi Joy,
ReplyDeletePlease, please please, get another doctor!!!
Joy I would recommend you see another doctor, perhaps one that your friend has had success with. I know that the Tech's do provide most of the information but I think it is still important that the doctor communicates with the patient more. Vicky
ReplyDeleteJoy you should have pointed your finger at him and done your best Trump impression of "Your fired!". LOL From my experience (not as a patient myself) but with others, it seems lots of these surgeons have really bad bedside manners. I really think some of them think they are God because they are used to people treating them as such. He needs to loosen his halo.

Hi,Joy I'm DeEtta ( pronounced Dee Etta) from North Dakota. I love your blog. I had cataract surgery several years ago and was offered the same options, mono, farsighted ( use reading glasses) and nearsighted (glasses for far vision). I chose nearsighted because that is what I have been all my life. I've never been sorry. I didn't want to have to relearn something new especially when it involves my eyes. The one down side is I still have to buy prescription glasses to wear and they are not cheap. The doctor was surprised and told me a large percentage of his patients choose farsighted correction. Hope this is helpful. Best wishes to you.

ReplyDeleteI suggest the following: DO YOUR OWN RESEARCH on the internet about options; learn about options there as well as the options folks here have suggested and those folks you know personally. Find another doctor. If one of your friends liked their doctor, use those references and recommendations. I have not had the surgery, but my sister has. She went with the Crystal Lens (may be called something different now) that enables her to see close, far and anywhere in between. She is very happy.
ReplyDeleteHello, Joy. I am located in Lakewood, CA (make that Southern CA - LA County). I have the very best ophthalmologist - such a professional, friendly, and he explains EVERYTHING. I have had both eyes done and had intra-ocular lens inplanted in both eyes. So, all I have to put on are reading glasses for reading, sewing, etc. The surgery and lens (called OTIC) cost me around $7,000.00 (before insurance kicked in) around 5-7 years ago. I love reading your posts. You are very lively, very down-to-earth, and a good Christian. Yay!!! I also enjoy watching you on You Tube. Thank you for your generosity in sharing...because isn't that what we are supposed to do with our talents?

ReplyDeleteThis doctor is not to be trusted with your precious eyesight. His lack of professionalism is appalling, and his saying he can tell you are "high strung" is insulting. i had cataract surgery almost 4 yrs ago with my severe nearsightedness and astigmatism corrected with intraocular lens implants. It was the surgeon's call as to what lenses he would use and ultimately corrected for long distance vision. There was an optional lens choice called "Toric" that corrected for distance and had a bifocal, Mono nor the Toric option was appropriate for me. I did understand that Medicare and my supplemental ins paid for the standard lenses, but the Toric were not as they were something unnecessary when the standard lenses were sufficient. I do use reading glasses 2.5 power and have been happy ever since.. i know everyone's situation is different,, but this doctor is too lackadaisical for me. Ask your friends for their experiences, and find a dr. with whom you are comfortable. You need a second opinion in a more respectful way.
ReplyDeleteHi Joy,
ReplyDeleteThat doctor is definitely not user friendly.
I had my lenses replaced a few years ago. I was a contact lens wearer for 30 plus years and near sighted.
I paid the extra and got accomodating lenses so that I dont have to wear glassess at all any more - I am so happy with the result. The results were instant and colours much more vibrant.
I would recommend that you do your own research and consult another eye doctor
Hello my Joyful Joy,
ReplyDeleteMy hubby had both eyes done two weeks apart just this past June! His options were, farsighted implants or the super high tech costly implants. He chose the farsighted implants because his doc said the high tech style were more difficult for night time driving. The glare from the oncoming headlights is largely complained about. He still plays baseball and was greatly concerned that the ballpark lights would have the same glaring effect while trying to catch a ball!! So glad the doctor warned us! You may want to remember to ask about this specifically. Also, if they didn't tell you, in about 2 years, you will most likely have to go back for a "one time" laser clean up. Something the body produces however once they go in with the laser, it never forms again. Good questions to have in your pocket if you interview another eye doc! (We interviewed 2 in our area) Best of luck and you are in my prayers! ~jolene
Thank you, Jolene, and everyone. I FIRED the doctor yesterday. I called first and then wrote a two page-letter explaining WHY and faxed it to his very nice nurse/assistant (?). I'm sure he couldn't care less as he is booked solid all the time. There are lots of doctors near my other home, so I am going to try up there to find a nice doctor.

DeleteHello Joy. Please get another doctor. You NEED a second opinion in the worst way. I would not recommend that you let that doctor touch your eyes. You use your eyes so much for your crafts. Your vision is precious. Don't let some guy who does not care enough to know you or explain things too you mess with such a precious gift. I love your vlog and I hope you take care of your vision. This doctor, based on what you tell us, scares me. Take care and thanks for putting yourself out there for us and sharing you talents so graciously.

ReplyDeleteHello Joy,
ReplyDeleteKeep searching until you know more about your doctor and options. Pros and cons of each procedure. Ask questions, explanations, time of recovery post operative ie, what to expect, if and when something goes wrong after the procedure.
I would inteview at least 3,4 experience surgeon's. What to ask how many procedures you perform each month, year, what are the results. Do you have a person who had the
procedure similar to yours and is he/ she can spend a few minutes to talk to you.
I personally have not had the surgery. However, I help my mother when she had the procedure done in Hawaiin not the best place.

Thanks for sharing, hope you read this. I hope you read this.
Joy, I have had both eyes done. The doctor used the Toric lens in my eyes. I can see fairly well. I do use the reading classes of 2.5 which I buy at Michael's for under $5. Foster Grant has come out with the reading classes for the computer. They graduated and around $30. The biggest surprise for me with the surgery is that I was fully awake and no pill before surgery to help me relax. The doctor explained that being awake was safer than being out. If you are asleep, he has to put a shot into your eyeball to steady the eye. I was upset the first time but I guess it was the best way. My vision was not clear the next morning and that too upset me. I was scared that I had lost the vision in that eye but it did return to normal. Best of luck with your surgery. Renee
